There are many opportunities to become involved in your child(ren)'s education with flexibility to fit any schedule. Volunteering not only enhances "The Lourdes Academy Way (L.A.W.)" for our children, it also offers you the opportunity to meet other families within the system and experience a sense of community. We look forward to working with you and thank you for your support.
Each person has an inherent dignity as a beloved child of God. The Diocese of Green Bay is committed to providing a safe environment in our parishes, in our schools, in our Faith Formation programs, and in all of our ministries, especially those that serve children, youth and individuals at risk. If you want to learn more about the programs and resources available through the Diocese of Green Bay to live out this commitment, please click on the following link: https://gbdioc.org/protecting-our-children/safe-environment
The Diocese of Green Bay requires all volunteers that will minister to children or individuals at risk must meet safe environment requirements of a completed and approved background check, safe environment training and signing a Code of Conduct. The Diocese of Green Bay is contracted with VIRTUS to comply with the USCCB Charter for the Protection of Children and Youth requirements in providing safe environments for all children and individuals at risk.
As such, ALL volunteers are required to complete an electronic application that generates a background check and they must complete the training for VIRTUS – Protecting God’s Children Workshop (online) prior to beginning their volunteer ministry, and electronically sign the Code of Conduct.
**** All volunteers (through their VIRTUS account) are required EVERY year to electronically sign the Code of Conduct and watch a 30-minute training video. ****
Some items to know BEFORE you start your registration in VIRTUS:
1. Read through the instructions first (click here).
2. This must be done on a computer as it will NOT work on a cell phone. When watching the online Safe Environment Training “Protecting God’s Children Online Awareness Session”, do NOT advance the program. The program MUST proceed on its own to the end and then it will show you as complete.
3. When you begin, you will need to provide the following:
* You will need to create a User ID and password.
* Your Diocese to select is: Green Bay, WI (Diocese).
* Your Location to select is Lourdes Academy (Oshkosh). ** Select the site that you will be employed or volunteering for. **
* You MUST enter your LEGAL name as shown on your Driver’s License or Social Security card.
* You must provide your date-of-birth.
* You must provide a LEGAL Social Security number. (This is a requirement)
* For the background check, you MUST provide the required references. They CANNOT be family members.
* Follow ALL of the steps through the registration process.

Student Service Hour Form | Student Volunteer Opportunities | Concession Stand Sign Ups
As a demonstration of our Catholic Christian faith, all students are required to complete 75 hours of community service in order to graduate. Students must demonstrate progress toward this goal by keeping a pace of 10 hours per semester through their first seven semesters. In other words, a first year student must have at least 10 hours on file by the end of first semester and 20 hours on file by the end of the school year. Failure to keep pace will result in an F for Christian Service recorded on the student's transcript.
Students who belong to a Catholic parish are required to complete 25 hours of parish service as a part of the 75 hour requirement.
Just to clarify, if a second year student already has accumulated 50 hours of service, they need not worry about failing if they do not have 10 per semester. They are already on track in order to graduate with 75, if they keep up their current pace. The requirement of 10 per semester is to prevent students from waiting until the last minute to do their service hours.
*If you are in need of some ideas of places to volunteer in our community to complete service hours, take a look at this document.
Examples:
Joe Smith is in the second semester of his first year at Lourdes and has a total of 50 hours already. He does not need to do 10 more for the end of the second semester. He has already accumulated the equivalent 5 semesters, so he will receive a passing grade for service hours.
Susie Simon is in the second semester of her first year at Lourdes and has a total of 12 service hours. She needs 8 more service hours by the end of the year (semester) to make it or she will receive an “F” for service.
